Schedule
The proposed schedule for the subject project is as follows:
Approval of Plans and Specifications and Award of Contract: 06/21/11
Start of Construction: 08/08/11
End of Construction: 10/14/11
Budget
Based on previous similar projects, staff is requesting a 15% project contingency in the
amount of $202,863 to fund unforeseen change orders. Typical pavement change
orders relate to isolated base conditions that require removal and replacement.
Unsuitable bases are not readily known until such time as the pavement is removed
during local base repair and the underlying base condition is exposed, requiring either
minor remedial treatment or extensive removal and replacement.
Separate traffic and pedestrian improvements will also be performed with this project.
Upgraded vehicle detection equipment will be installed ($58,000 for equipment plus
$15,000 for installation using the City's on-call traffic signal maintenance contractor). In
addition, $9,000 is budgeted for adjustment to pedestrian push buttons to achieve
Americans with Disability Act compliance.
As a result of the contingency, traffic and pedestrian improvements, and required testing
services, the estimated total project budget is $1,667,542.
Since the CMA Block Grant program funds is on a reimbursement basis, the City will
need to use local funding to meet the cash flow needs of the project. Staff is
recommending use of Capital Improvement Project Reserve funds or other available
project reserves until reimbursement is received. Once the CMA Block Grant
reimbursement funds have been received, the borrowed funds will be returned to the
appropriate project reserve.
Submitted: Fiscal Review: Approved by:
Brian Dolan Emily Wagner Nelson Fialho
Director of Director of Finance City Manager
Community Development
Attachments:
1.
