Attachment 1 <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 11- <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON, <br /> AUTHORIZING THE TRANSFER OF OWNERSHIP OF POLICE CANINE "KAIJ" TO <br /> OFFICER DAVE BATOY <br /> WHEREAS, Kaij began his career as a Police Service Canine in 2004 and was assigned <br /> to Officer Dave Batoy. Kaij and Officer Batoy formed a special bond to become the tenth Police <br /> Service Canine team to serve the City of Pleasanton. Kaij and Officer Batoy completed a <br /> rigorous basic training which included tracking, apprehension and narcotics training; and <br /> WHEREAS, Kaij demonstrated his unique capabilities at numerous community events <br /> including presentations for Red Ribbon Week, City wide Open House events, and numerous <br /> other requests from community members for his services; and <br /> WHEREAS, Kaij's strong drive and keen sense of smell led to the apprehension of <br /> numerous criminal offenders and the location of illegal narcotics throughout the Tri-Valley area <br /> assisting the California Highway Patrol, San Ramon PD, Contra Costa County SO, Alameda <br /> County SO, Livermore PD and Santa Clara County Task Force; and, <br /> WHEREAS, Officer Dave Batoy and Kaij worked on their first deployment when <br /> requested to track a fleeing felon who assaulted an Alameda County Sheriff's Deputy. The <br /> team located the suspect in the backyard of a residence. <br /> WHEREAS, Police Service Canine Kaij retired on May 151, 2011 after seven years of <br /> service, the City of Pleasanton is extremely proud of his service and dedication to the policing <br /> profession and the residents of the community of Pleasanton. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br /> PLEASANTON DOES RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER THE FOLLOWING: <br /> SECTION 1. The City Council hereby recognizes Police Service Canine Kaij for over <br /> seven years of service to the City of Pleasanton. <br /> SECTION 2. The City Council expresses its deep appreciation for Kaij's many <br /> contributions to the City of Pleasanton and extends sincere best wishes for an enjoyable <br /> retirement. <br /> SECTION 3. This resolution shall become effective immediately upon its passage and <br /> adoption. <br /> PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Pleasanton at <br /> a regular meeting held on May 17, 2011. <br />
