ENGEO

INCORPORATED

recommendations known to the City of Pleasanton permit issuing authority. Homeowners, other
agencies or public utility companies requesting review will pay for reasonable services as
established by the GHAD. The GHAD also may exercise a public education and awareness
function by distributing information regarding landslide or erosion hazards and by encouraging
the cooperation of residents as described in Geologic Action Plan Section G, below.

D. GeotechnicaI Techniques for Mitigation of Landslide and Erosion Hazards

Geotechnical techniques for mitigating or repairing landslide or erosion damage include:

1. Elimination of the unstable earth mass.

2. Stabilization (either partial or total) of a landslide by removal and replacement with
compacted drained fill.

3. Construction of structures to retain or divert landslide material or sediment.

4. Construction of erosion control devices such as gabions, riprap, geotextiles, or lined ditches.

5. Placement of drained, engineered buttress fills.

6. Placement of subsurface drainage devices (e.g. underdrains or horizontal drilled drains).

7. Slope correction (e.g. gradient change, biotechnical stabilization, and slope trimming or
contouring).

8. Construction of additional surface ditches and/or detention basins, silt fences, sediment traps,
backfill or erosion channels.

Potential landslide and erosion hazards can be reduced by controlling saturation and water runoff
through the maintenance of surface and subsurface drainage systems. This includes maintenance
of the concrete-lined V-shaped drainage ditches.

4992.5.001.01
February 28, 2003 11 DRAFT 2
