THE CITY OF 05
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
pL£ASANTONo
May 3, 2011
Community Development
Engineering Division
TITLE: ACCEPT PUBLIC IMPROVEMENTS PERFORMED BY ROSAS
BROTHERS CONSTRUCTION FOR THE ANNUAL SIDEWALK AND
INTERSECTION RAMP INSTALLATION PROJECT, CIP NO. 095005
SUMMARY
On July 20, 2010 Pleasanton's City Council ratified the approval of plans and
specifications and the award of contract to the lowest responsible bidder, Rosas
Brothers Construction, in the amount of $133,172.50. The subject project has since
been completed and is ready for acceptance. The project consisted of: construction of
eight raised islands with passageways and pedestrian -push buttons along Hopyard
Road and 13 intersection ramps; installation of yellow detectable warning surfaces onto
existing ramps at various locations; and replacement of damaged sidewalk, curb and
gutter at various locations (see Attachment 1 for project locations).
RECOMMENDATION
1. Accept the improvements for this project.
2. Authorize the City Clerk to file a Notice of Completion for the subject project.
3. Authorize payment of the retention in the amount of $14,801.65 to Rosas Brothers
Construction of Oakland thirty days after recordation of the Notice of Completion.
4. Authorize the transfer of $3,330 from the next Annual Curb and Gutter
Replacement project (CIP No. 105005) into the subject project (CIP No. 095005) in
order to complete the funding for this project.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
This project is part of the City's ongoing maintenance program to replace and upgrade
existing infrastructure and should not increase maintenance costs. Funding for this
project was provided by the Annual Curb and Gutter Replacement project, CIP No.
095005, which was authorized by City Council as part of the 2009/10 Capital
- Improvement Program. Because the total expenses for the project are $7,275 more
than the approved project budget ($3,330 more than the total funds available in the CIP
project), staff is recommending the use of the remaining available balance in the project
($3,945) and the transfer of $3,330 from the Annual Curb and Gutter Replacement
project (CIP No. 105005) to cover the project shortage.
