Commissioner Cloud discussed the basic categories of the Developmental Assets, and Ms. <br /> Hopkins advised that the program engages youth and adults in modeling, teaching, and <br /> celebrating healthy youth and adults in the community and informs the general public on why the <br /> 40 Developmental Assets are important to families. <br /> Partners Fore Golf, Inc., dba The First Tee of the Tri- Valley - Dan McKegney <br /> The Commission was advised that this program would provide Life Skills Experience to teach <br /> youth between the ages of 7 -17 about life changing values. It would translate skills learned from <br /> golf to everyday life experiences such as confidence, courtesy, respect, sportsmanship, etc. <br /> Funds requested would be used to provide instruction and golf facility access costs. <br /> Ambrose D. Regalia, VFW Post 6298 - Larry Jackson and Dave Hamm <br /> Mr. Jackson advised that this program provides equipment for youth in under - privileged and low - <br /> income families. The funds requested would be used to purchase safety equipment to allow <br /> Pleasanton youth to participate in sports. Last year the VFW provided support to over 500 <br /> Pleasanton youth. <br /> Commissioner Borchers questioned how youth needs were determined and the criteria used to <br /> select participants in the program. Commissioner Malindzak also had concerns regarding how <br /> the VFW allocated the requested funds. <br /> Commissioner Matsune discussed the possibility of the VFW accepting donated staff time for the <br /> program. <br /> Chairperson Hall closed the Public Hearing. <br /> Commissioners reviewed all of the applications, considered the funding recommendations and <br /> comments made by staff, and agreed to review each application individually and make a funding <br /> recommendation. <br /> Ambrose D. Regalia, VFW Post 6298 - Post Youth Activities for Pleasanton's <br /> Underprivileged /Low Income -. All Commissioners agreed to recommend full funding for this <br /> application for the requested arnount of $2,500. <br /> Axis Community Health - Teen Drug and Alcohol Program Enhancement - All Commissioners <br /> agreed to recommend full funding of $4,950 for this program. Commissioner Cloud originally <br /> indicated $4,000, but agreed to change his recommendation to full funding. <br /> Easter Seals Bay Area - Kaleidoscope After School Program - All Commissioners agreed to <br /> recommend full funding in the amount of $7,500 for this application. <br /> Tri - Valley YMCA - Families in Transition - Commissioners agreed to recommend full funding in <br /> the amount of $7,500 for this application. <br /> Tri - Valley YMCA - Youth & Government Model Legislature and Court - Commissioners could <br /> not come to consensus regarding the funding level for this application.
