3. Public Comment from audience regarding items not listed on the agenda <br /> There were none. <br /> PUBLIC HEARINGS AND OTHER MATTERS <br /> 4. Presentation from Non - Profit Agencies and Recommendation to allocate <br /> Community Grant Funds for Fiscal Year 2011/12 <br /> Ms. Hopkins and Mr. Berhel provided an overview of the funding process, advising that <br /> applications had been received from seven (7) agencies with requested funds totaling $42,030, <br /> and available funds for Fiscal Year 2011/12 totaling $42,723. <br /> Chairperson Hall opened the Public Hearing for agency presentations. <br /> Axis Community Health Center, Amy Souza — Teen Drug and Alcohol Recovery Program <br /> Enhancement <br /> The Commission was advised that Axis Community Health Center was requesting $4,950 in <br /> funds for the Teen Drug and Alcohol Recovery Program Enhancement. Ms. Souza added that <br /> funds would be used to purchase a laptop and projector, educational materials, DVD's, multi- <br /> media programs, and teaching supplies that will assist them in providing necessary services for <br /> this program. Ms. Souza further advised that Axis works closely with college internship <br /> programs. <br /> Commissioner Borchers questioned how Axis determined the amount of funds needed and the <br /> number of Pleasanton residents that they expected to serve. Ms. Souza stated that Axis has <br /> researched the cost of the equipment and supplies needed and that the amount requested was <br /> for serving Pleasanton residents only. <br /> Commissioner Malindzak discussed with Ms. Souza the goals for the program and its success <br /> rate. She also questioned the actual number of Pleasanton residents that the program would <br /> assist. Commissioner Borchers also asked about the success rate and how Axis determines if <br /> teens are staying clean after participating in the program. <br /> Easter Seals Bay Area, Jen Reeve — Kaleidoscope After School Program <br /> Ms. Reeve provided details about the Kaleidoscope After School Program, advising that this was <br /> the only after school care program provided for youth with developmental disabilities. <br /> Kaleidoscope provides these youth with a safe and nurturing environment and allows the <br /> students to explore and build friendships, practice interpersonal skills, and build social networks. <br /> She advised that a large number of people volunteer their services for this program. <br /> Commissioner Malindzak and Chairperson Hall questioned whether requested funds would be <br /> used for salaries, and Commissioner Borchers questioned how the funds would help Pleasanton <br /> youth.
