Presentation from Non - Profit Agencies and Recommendation to allocate Community Grant Funds for Fiscal Year 2011/12 Ms. Hopkins and Mr. Berhel provided an overview of the funding process, advising that applications had been received from seven (7) agencies with requested funds totaling $42,030, and available funds for Fiscal Year 2011/12 totaling $42,723. Chairperson Hall opened the Public Hearing for agency presentations. Axis Community Health Center, Amy Souza — Teen Drug and Alcohol Recovery Program Enhancement The Commission was advised that Axis Community Health Center was requesting $4,950 in funds for the Teen Drug and Alcohol Recovery Program Enhancement. Ms. Souza added that funds would be used to purchase a laptop and projector, educational materials, DVD's, multi- media programs, and teaching supplies that will assist them in providing necessary services for this program. Ms. Souza further advised that Axis works closely with college internship programs. Commissioner Borchers questioned how Axis determined the amount of funds needed and the number of Pleasanton residents that they expected to serve. Ms. Souza stated that Axis has researched the cost of the equipment and supplies needed and that the amount requested was for serving Pleasanton residents only. Commissioner Malindzak discussed with Ms. Souza the goals for the program and its success rate. She also questioned the actual number of Pleasanton residents that the program would assist. Commissioner Borchers also asked about the success rate and how Axis determines if teens are staying clean after participating in the program. Easter Seals Bay Area, Jen Reeve — Kaleidoscope After School Program Ms. Reeve provided details about the Kaleidoscope After School Program, advising that this was the only after school care program provided for youth with developmental disabilities. Kaleidoscope provides these youth with a safe and nurturing environment and allows the students to explore and build friendships, practice interpersonal skills, and build social networks. She advised that a large number of people volunteer their services for this program. Commissioner Malindzak and Chairperson Hall questioned whether requested funds would be used for salaries, and Commissioner Borchers questioned how the funds would help Pleasanton youth. Ms. Reeve advised that the funds requested would allow the program to service 14 Pleasanton residents and that other funds for the program are raised through fundraising efforts.
