THE CITY OF 13
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
PLEA TON
March 15, 2011
Operations Services
TITLE: ADOPT A RESOLUTION EXTENDING THE TERM OF THE COMMITTEE
ON ENERGY AND THE ENVIRONMENT UNTIL APRIL 30, 2013
SUMMARY
In July, 2008 the City Council established the Committee on Energy and the
Environment to advise it on energy and environmental issues, strategies, planning and
protections and opportunities for conservation. The duties of the Committee on Energy
and Environment (Committee) include supporting the intent of the City's General Plan
environmental goals, developing measurable energy strategies related to preservation,
enhancement and conscientious utilization of environmental resources, and other
energy related matters. Most recently, the Committee has been involved with
developing the City's Climate Action Plan (CAP). Based on the level of involvement
anticipated in 2008, the Committee was formed for an initial term of two years after
which extensions could be made by the City Council. Due to the amount of time
required to complete the CAP and other energy related matters concerning the
Committee, staff has determined it's appropriate for the City Council to consider
extending the term of the Committee for an additional two years until April 30, 2013.
Prior to this date, the City Council may reassess the Committee's agenda and agree to
extend for an additional length of time.
RECOMMENDATION
Adopt attached resolution amending Resolution No. 08 -234 to extend the term of the
Committee on Energy and the Environment until April 30, 2013.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
The financial impact is minimal relating to staff time required to staff and support the
Committee.
