Proclaim January as National Blood Donor Month <br /> Councilmember McGovern presented the proclamation to Ed Fazo of the American Red Cross <br /> Regional Office. <br /> Ed Faso, Donor Recruit Manager, American Red Cross, thanked the Council for the <br /> proclamation; noted one pint of blood can save up to 3 lives and that organizations in <br /> Pleasanton hosted 30 blood drives where 11,201 units of blood were collected thus saving <br /> 33,603 lives. <br /> 10. Public Comment <br /> Kathy Dowding thanked Councilmember McGovern for the moment of silence at the beginning <br /> of the meeting, read a list of the names of military men and women whose lives were lost in Iraq <br /> and Afghanistan from the end of November, and said there has been 1 death per day to date in <br /> January. <br /> Fred Norman thanked Councilmember McGovern for the moment of silence at the start of the <br /> meeting, asked the City Council to do something to end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan which <br /> he has continued to ask since 2006. <br /> David Miller said he provided comments at the December Council meeting regarding pension <br /> benefits, voiced concern regarding unfunded liabilities, the City's inability to keep promises to <br /> employees, and the timeline for the employee contract. <br /> City Council Minutes Page 2 of 15 January 4, 2011 <br />
