Public Comment <br /> Kathy Dowding read the names of the 19 American men and women killed in Iraq and <br /> Afghanistan since the last City Council meeting. She invited the Council and public to attend the <br /> next Pleasantonians for Peace peaceful protest or vigil. <br /> Chris Mosser, Faith and Survival, said the Council's recent approval of a Green Building Code is <br /> a clear denial of the current housing and foreclosure crisis. He questioned the City's power to <br /> push its global warming, social justice, and environmental socialism on its citizens through <br /> taxation, regulation, fees, and fines. <br /> PUBLIC HEARINGS AND OTHER MATTERS <br /> 7. Continued to February 15, 2011 — Review of the city's strategy for managing personnel <br /> costs <br /> Vice Mayor Cook - Kallio opened the item for public comment. <br /> Venke Venkatesan voiced his concern over the economic climate of the nation that has grown <br /> over the last decade. He said that while the City has taken many steps to control employee <br /> costs, pension has yet to be addressed in a meaningful way. He provided the City Clerk with a <br /> list of questions to be addressed in the coming weeks. <br /> David Miller thanked the Council for the workshop opportunity. He believed the staff report, and <br /> the whole process, greatly lacks transparency. He identified 9 areas in which the staff report <br /> could be improved. <br /> 8. Continued to February 15, 2011 — Introduction of a Tentative Agreement between the <br /> City of Pleasanton and the Pleasanton City Employees Association /AFSCME Local 955 <br /> fora term ending March 31, 2013 <br /> Vice Mayor Cook - Kallio invited public comment. <br /> David Miller thanked the Council for hearing the public's concerns and submitted a petition <br /> requesting a public workshop. <br /> Bart Hughes urged the Council to send the contract back for further discussions and <br /> negotiations. <br /> Brenda Wood, AFSCME Local 955, said she looks forward to talking about the tentative <br /> agreement in February. She said parties entered into negotiations in good faith, they reached <br /> and ratified a Tentative Agreement in November 2010, and she is eager to share some of the <br /> concessions given to address the budgetary concerns of the community. <br /> City Council Minutes Page 2 of 3 January 18, 2011 <br />
