20. Approve Council Commission and Committee Assignments and Appointment of Vice Mayor
for Calendar Year 2011
Mayor Hosterman appointed Councilmember Cook - Kallio as Vice Mayor for Calendar Year
2011.
Councilmember Sullivan said the Council seems to have moved away from an even rotation of
Vice Mayor amongst Councilmembers. He said both he and Councilmember McGovern have
been on the Council 6 years, but only been assigned Vice Mayor once each. Councilmember
Thorne was assigned Vice Mayor two years in a row and Councilmember Cook - Kallio twice in
four years. He said this Council has a strong diversity of opinion, which is lost with a Mayor and
Vice Mayor who are of the same opinion. Councilmember McGovern concurred.
Mayor Hosterman said that before assigning Councilmember Thorne a second time, she
researched the actions of past mayors on the matter. She said it was very erratic and followed
no particular pattern.
Motion: It was M/S by Thorne /Cook - Kallio to approve Council Commission and Committee
Assignments and Appointment of Councilmember Cook - Kallio as Vice Mayor for Calendar Year
2011.
