Planning Commission
September 22, 2010
Page 4
Goldberg details of a complex prior system adopted when the state of the art of green
building was at a more primitive level.
CalGreen is a Better System
By adopting CalGreen Tier 1 Pleasanton is exceeding the basic CalGreen standards
which are being adopted by most competing jurisdictions, including Dublin, Livermore,
San Ramon, and Walnut Creek. It will not be productive to adopt our own unique point
and category system with our own score cards and checklists leading to local micro
management and substantial future public and private costs. If there are some specific
green requirements beyond CalGreen Tier 1 that are truly worth doing, then let's just
adopt those, and don't bog our staff and applicants down with a whole parallel
regulatory system over minor differences, which are nuances not improvements. Lets
adopt a green buildings approach that is cost effective and truly sustainable, and
CalGreen Tier 1 standing alone should be that standard.
Si cerely,
Peter MacDonald
Cc: Community Development Director
Rosalind Rondash
Chamber of Commerce
Pleasanton Downtown Association
Attachment: December 15, 2008 letter to City of Santa Rosa
