c. Actions of the Zoning Administrator

.--- There were none.

9. COMMUNICATIONS

Commissioner Arkin advised that the Housing Commission held a special meeting to discuss
Measure V, and that the Commission voted to take a formal stand against the measure. He noted
that the vote was 6-1.

Chairperson Maas advised that she had attended the League of California Cities Conference in
Long Beach, and noted that a prominent topic was affordable housing, as well as homeland
security. She noted that planners, police personnel, Councilmembers, and youth commissioners
were in attendance. She noted that Michael Rousch discussed green building measures. She was
pleased to see that Pleasanton was well ahead of the curve in these matters.

10. REFERRALS

There were none.

11. MATTERS FOR COMMISSION'S INFORMATION

a. Roof slope study

r-

Commissioner Roberts thanked Jenny Soo for preparing the roof slope study. She noted that
some projects included roofs with hardly any slope so that they did not exceed the height
limitation, and noted that the Greenbriar homes were an example. There had been a OSHA safety
requirement for roof slopes.

A discussion of roof slopes ensued.

Comissioner Sedlak noted that the Greenbriar Homes were production homes.

Commissioner Roberts believed that the Greenbriar homes were beautiful, and disagreed with
the characterization of their appearance in Tim Hunt's article in the Herald. She noted that they
had windows in the bathrooms and the laundry, as well as granite countertops in the kitchen. She
noted that the Below Market Rate units were identical to the Market Rate units. She disagreed
with the characterization of the exterior of the apartment buildings, and noted that they were not
flat and contained considerable architectural interest.

Commissioner Arkin inquired whether a steeper roof line would provide more storage
opportunity. He believed that a resident should be able to park two cars in a two car garage, and
that the extra storage in an attic would make that possible.

Mr. Iserson noted that would be possible if attics were included. The issue of the roof pitch
primarily addressed architectural interest.

-

PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES

October 9,2002

Page 10
