ROLL CALL r- Staff Members Present: Jerry Iserson, Principal Planner, Lynn Tracy Nerland, Assistant City Attorney; Wes Jost, Engineering Services Manager, and Cory Emberson, Recording Secretary. Commissioners Present: Commissioners Brian Arkin, Harvey Kameny, Trish Maas, Mary Roberts, Matt Sullivan, Alternate Commissioner Mike Sedlak. Commissioners Absent: None. 2. a. Determination of Term of Chairperson and Vice Chairperson Assistant City Attorney Lynn Tracy Nerland advised that the election of the Chair and Vice Chair had been placed on the September 25, 2002, meeting because a year had passed since the last election. Commissioner Arkin was voted Chair, and Commissioner Roberts was voted Vice Chair. Subsequently, it came to staff's attention that City Council had recently passed an ordinance which would standardize the procedures for all the commissions. The commissions would elect all the Chairs and Vice Chairs in December, taking office in January, 2003. Staff recommends that the Planning Commission amend its previous action in order to be in conformance with this ordinance. Staff indicated that there were various ways to do tis, but suggested that Chair-Elect Arkin and Vice-Chair- Elect Roberts take office in January, and that Chairperson Maas continue as Chair and Chair-Elect Arkin serve as Vice-Chair until then in order to make a smooth transition. - PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES October 9, 2002 Page 1
