,--

and materials board and noted that the colors were soft and nonintrusive. He noted that
the metal roofing would provide material variety and a playful element to the project.

Mr. Ruthroff noted that the pitch of the canopy was lowered, with a reduction in height of
approximately one foot. He noted that the highest point of the building was 25 feet and
that the houses behind it range from 27 to 33 feet in height. He noted that the color of the
window trim would be carried around the entire building. He noted that the monument
sign had been reduced in scale and would be more appropriate to the surrounding
properties.

Blythe Wilson, RHL Design Group, 1340 Arnold Drive, Ste. 110, Martinez, wished to
respond to the Commission's concerns regarding the fence and the vent pipes. They had
examined alternatives for the vent pipes, possibly screening and incorporating them into
another feature, such as flagpoles. He believed that the landscaping and trellises would be
a positive aesthetic feature.

Mr. Wilson believed that the sound analysis performed for the carwash was adequate. He
assured the Commission that should there be any occasion when the noise level became a
problem, there were many alternatives to consider aside from a sound wall. He noted that
sound curtains inside the building would buffer and absorb the noise, and that the trellis
could contain sound-absorbing materials as well. He believed it would be a model site for
other cities and added that it would be a project that Pleasanton could be proud of.

,--

In response to an inquiry by Commissioner Roberts, Mr. Wilson replied that they
intended to grow vines on the fencing, supported by latticework on the fence.

Mr. Ruthroff presented an animation that showed the approach to the site from Bernal,
and showed the scale and dimension of the site from a driver's perspective.

In response to an inquiry by Commissioner Roberts, Mr. Ruthroff replied that the
building would be color coordinated with the corporate color scheme. If a Chevron
station were placed there, the building may be painted soft gray.

Chairperson Maas noted that if the color scheme changed, she would like the Planning
Commission to review it before it went to City Council.

Commissioner Arkin stated that this was the most gorgeous gas station he had ever seen,
and asked if they would planned to design the new fire station.

Mark Hirsch noted that they had met with Starbucks and were trying to arrange meetings
with other coffee purveyors. Starbucks was primarily interested in the site because there
would be a drive-through. They wanted to see how far through the process the applicant
could get before they committed further. Noah's Bagel did not appear to be too active in
the process, but they were still in contact. He noted that they intended to be good
neighbors and added that they were extremely happy with the design and flow.
