/"-

c.

Actions of the Zoning Administrator

No action was taken.

9. COMMUNICATIONS

Commissioner Maas noted that the new date for the joint workshop with the City Council is
July 30 at 8:30 p.m.

10. REFERRALS (continued)

/-

Mr. Iserson reported that staff has looked into the issue related to the Planning Commission's
direction to explore the feasibility of replacing the spandrel windows on the second floor
addition at 350 Main Street with trellises. He advised that staff spoke with Mr. Cannon and the
property owner, Mr. McColm, regarding this matter and staff determined that the spandrel glass
windows are probably the best solution. He noted that staff tries to discourage anything in the
Downtown that is fake because everything is so highly visible, but they feel that because the
options in this case are limited and because of the location of the windows and the proposed trim,
it would not appear to the passerby that the windows are not real. He noted that there a couple of
fake windows on the Gay 90's building and it is not apparent that they are not real. Mr.Iserson
reported that Mr. McColm expressed a preference to install the trellises and was advised that this
item would be presented this evening to the Planning Commission, but that Mr. McColm is not
present this evening. Mr. Iserson also reported that Mr. Cannon does not like fake windows, but
did agree that it would not be very visually apparent. The Planning Commission noted support
for staff's decision.

11. MATTERS FOR COMMISSION'S INFORMATION

There were none.

12. ADJOURNMENT

Chairperson Maas adjourned the Planning Commission meeting at 9:00 p.m.

Respectfully Submitted,

JERRY ISERSON
Secretary

---

PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES

May 22, 2002

Page 13
