<br />r- Item 6.d., Robert Grove (PDR-73/PV-60, Allen Roberts), was continued to the January 23,2002 <br />meeting. <br /> <br />5. MATTERS CONTINUED FOR DECISION <br /> <br />There were none. <br /> <br />6. PUBLIC HEARINGS AND OTHER MATTERS <br /> <br />a. PCUP-43, Mike Madden/Rose Hotel <br />Application for a conditional use permit to allow alcohol service at the bar located inside <br />the Rose Hotel lobby at 807 Main Street. Zoning for the property is C-C (Central <br />Commercial), Downtown Revitalization, Core Area Overlay District. <br /> <br />Ms. Kline presented the staff report, describing the application, including the proposed hours of <br />operation, potential noise sources, and parking needs. She advised that staff has provided to the <br />Planning Commission a copy of a letter received from a resident subsequent to the delivery of <br />the staff report, expressing concerns about alcohol being served in the lobby bar past 10:00 p.m. <br />Ms. Kline stated that staffis recommending approval of the application as conditioned. <br /> <br />r- <br /> <br />Commissioner Sullivan questioned the operating hours of the bar at the Pleasanton Hotel. Ms. <br />Kline advised that she is not sure of the Pleasanton Hotel hours, but the State allows service up <br />to 2:00 a.m. She further advised that in researching some of the other bar uses in the Downtown, <br />some of the uses are fairly old and there is not easy access to the records. She noted that a <br />number of the establishments are open until midnight, such as the Brew Pub. She stated that the <br />Brew Pub hours are midnight on Friday and Saturday, and 11 :00 p.m. on Sunday through <br />Thursday. <br /> <br />THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS OPENED <br /> <br />COMMENTS FROM THE APPLICANT <br /> <br />Mike Madden, 807 Main Street, represented the Rose Hotel. He advised that he spoke with Mr. <br />Barone regarding his hours of operation, and Mr. Barone advised that they do not serve a lot of <br />people after midnight during the week, but he does not believe they are conditioned to stop <br />serving alcohol and he believes he can serve until midnight during the week and until 2:00 a.m. <br />on Friday and Saturday. Mr. Madden advised that Pleasanton Hotel staff indicated that they <br />serve well after 1 :00 a.m., and they try to have "last call" at 1 :30 a.m. <br /> <br />Mr. Madden advised that it is in their best interest to make sure that they operate a first-class <br />establishment, and they want to have a quiet, comfortable lobby for the hotel guests. He stated <br />that the staff report explains how they intend to operate the lobby bar. <br /> <br />Jim Hoge, 561 St. John Street, reported that he is the new president of the P1easanton Downtown <br />Association, but is here this evening as a resident.
