,,--

5.

Planter boxes

Commissioner Kameny noted that he has no problem with leaving in the planter boxes. This was
the consensus of the Commission.

6. Column expression

The Planning Commission supported alternative C. Mr. Graeser advised that they are in
agreement with recessing the windows.

Mr. Cannon suggested that the second floor arch windows need more work. He noted that the
area above the small windows should be of a material that matches the frames of the windows,
rather than a contrasting material. Mr. Cannon noted that he would like to see the brick all one
color. Mr. Graeser advised that they would like to see the horizontal band a different color.
Commissioner Kameny stated that he likes the band as shown in the rendering. Commissioner
Roberts noted that this is not a major issue. Commissioner Harvey stated that the colors are not
really evident in the rendering. He noted that there is a lot of geometric detail in the design and
he would like the colors to be simpler. Chairperson Sullivan asked for two large color
renderings: one depicting the proposed design, and one depicting the one-color brick design.

Commissioner Roberts advised that with regard to the questions in staffs memo, she agrees that
the building addresses the previous concerns raised by the Commission. She further advised that
she feels the remainder of the questions were addressed in the discussion.

5.b. Workshop to review a proposal to construct a wireless communications facility
consisting of an artificial tree, panel antennas, global positioning satellite (GPS), and
related equipment located at 7315 Johnson Drive. Zoning for the property is
Planned Unit Development - General and Limited Industrial District.

Commissioner Harvey advised that he would excuse himself from the discussion of this item
because of a potential conflict of interest.

Ms. Eisenwinter presented the revised proposal, commenting on the modifications to the height
of the pole, the placement of the brackets and panel antennas, and the design of the tree pole.
She noted that staff feels the revised proposal is more realistic in appearance and meets the
"stealth requirements" of the Pleasanton Municipal Code. She advised that staff does not feel the
photo simulations match the plans and recommends the photo simulations be revised in
accordance with the plans. She also advised that staff is recommending that the antennas be
painted "Dark Earth," and provided a sample of this color for the Commission's review. Ms.
Eisenwinter reported that the Cingular antennas are no longer proposed on the tree pole and that
they will be submitting a proposal for a stealth flagpole facility at the front of the Lock It Up
Storage site.

Chairperson Sullivan opened the work session to hear comments from the applicant.

,-.

PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES

August 22,2001

Page 6
