DISCUSSION
On January 24, 2011, the Livermore Amador Valley Transit Authority will launch its new
bus service, the Rapid. This new bus line will serve Pleasanton, Dublin, and Livermore
and provide service to Kaiser in Pleasanton, both Tri- Valley BART Stations, the entire
Dublin Boulevard corridor, and Downtown Livermore.
The route will operate weekdays every 10 minutes during commute times and every 15
minutes during non - commute times. The Rapid buses feature transit signal priority
(TSP) which allows the buses to hold green lights decreasing the total travel time.
The Rapid route also features fewer bus stops. The bus stops are concentrated at
major boarding locations and include larger bus stop areas with monitors that will
display real -time bus arrivals.
Other changes that occur with the implementation of the Rapid service, will include the
reduction of Route 10 service between Livermore and Pleasanton from 15 minute
service to 30 minute all day service. Route 10 within Pleasanton, however, will maintain
15 minute peak service and 30 minute off peak service just as the service is today.
Pleasanton will see the added benefit of TSP on the Santa Rita Road corridor and in
Downtown Pleasanton. All Route 10 buses will feature TSP, shortening the trip time for
Pleasanton transit riders between Downtown and BART and improving on -time
performance on Pleasanton's busiest transit corridor.
Jeff Flynn, LAVTA Planning Director, will provide a presentation describing the new
service and will be available to answer questions the Council may have regarding this
bus rapid transit service.
Submitted by: Approve by:
Brian Dolan Nelson Fialho
Director of City Manager
Community Development
