Pleasanton Gateway- Environmental Checklist
Less Than
Significant
Potentially Impact With Less Than
Significant Mitigation Significant No
Issues Impact Incorporated Impact Impact
Noise
Would the project:
a) Exposure of persons to or generation of noise levels in 1 X I L_I
excess of standards established in the local general
plan or noise ordinance, or applicable standards of
other agencies?
b) Exposure of persons to or generation of excessive Li 1 X
ground borne vibration or ground borne noise levels?
c) A substantial permanent increase in ambient noise C_ I x I Lā€”
levels in the project vicinity above levels existing
without the project?
d) A substantial temporary or periodic increase in P1 LXJ L
ambient noise levels in the project vicinity above levels
existing without the project?
e) For a project located within an airport land use plan or, L X
where such a plan has not been adopted, within two
miles of a public airport or public use airport, would the
project expose people residing or working in the
project area to excessive noise levels?
f) For a project within the vicinity of a private airstrip, L _
would the project expose people residing or working in
the project area to excessive noise levels?
Discussion
a -b) The ambient noise level for the site varies from 70 dBA Ld at the edge -of-
pavement on Valley Avenue to 80 dEtA L at the site's boundary line with the 1-
680. This ambient noise level is considered to be "Conditionally Acceptable" for
"Office Buildings, Business Commercial, and Professional" land uses ā€” 70 dBA Ld
to 80 dBA L ā€” by the 2005 ā€” 2025 Pleasanton General Plan'. Standard
commercial /office building construction can achieve a 15 dB to 20 dB reduction in
interior noise levels, thereby achieving the 60 dBA Ld interior noise standard of
the Pleasanton General Plan'. Therefore, this would be a less than - significant-
impact.
c) The Bernal Property Specific Plan and Final EIR required the construction of
commercial /office buildings on the Pleasanton Gateway property, at a minimum
19 -foot building height, to mitigate the noise impacts from the 1 -680 freeway to the
residential developments on the east side of Valley Avenue. As stated in the
Pleasanton General Plan, construction of an eight -foot tall noise barrier on the 1-
680 property line will move the 60 dBA Ld noise contour line to the approximate
Page 42 of 52 Pleasanton Gateway Initial Study August 2, 2010
