Pleasanton Gateway— Environmental Checklist
c) Be located on a geologic unit or soil that is unstable, I ❑ ❑ C il
or that would become unstable as a result of the
project, and potentially result in on- or off -site
landslide, lateral spreading, subsidence, liquefaction
or collapse?
d) Be located on expansive soil, as defined in Table 18- pi ❑ © [1
1 -B of the Uniform Building Code (1994), creating
substantial risks to life or property?
e) Have soils incapable of adequately supporting the CI ❑ ❑ LXil
use of septic tanks or alternative wastewater disposal
systems where sewers are not available for the
disposal of wastewater?
Discussion
a) The subject site is located in the Alquist - Priolo Earthquake Fault Zone as
delineated by the California Division of Mines and Geology. The project would be
subject to potential damage from earthquake ground shaking as a maximum
intensity of VIII of the Modified Mercalli Scale. Therefore, this would be a less -
than- significant - impact.
a -i) There are no Alquist - Priolo earthquake faults on the site. Therefore, this would be
considered no- impact.
a -ii) The State of California provides minirnum standards for building design through
the California Building Standards Code (California Code of Regulations (CCR),
Title 24). The California Building Code is based on the UBC and has been
modified for California conditions with numerous more detailed and /or stringent
regulations. Specific seismic safety requirements are set forth in Chapter 23 of
the UBC. The State earthquake protection law requires that buildings be
designed to resist stresses produced by lateral forces caused by earthquakes.
The City implements the requirements of the California Code through its building
permit process. The proposed project will be required to comply with the
applicable codes and standards to provide earthquake resistant design to meet or
exceed the current seismic Zone 8 requirements. Therefore, this would be a less -
than- significant- impact.
a-Hi-iv) The site is composed of fill material compacted to the standards of the California
Building Code and, therefore, is not anticipated to fail during a seismic event. This
site is also flat and, therefore, will not be subject to landslides. Therefore, this
would be considered no- impact.
b) Natural erosion is frequently accelerated by human activities such as site
preparation for construction. Grading and excavation and trenching for on -site
utility lines, will disturb soils, which could increase the rate of erosion if controls or
best management practices are not in place. The City requires that all projects
meet the requirements for stormwater control measures during design,
Page 33 of 52 Pleasanton Gateway Initial Study August 2, 2010
