Pleasanton Gateway- Environmental Checklist
Discussion
a) There are no known historical sites identified on the subject property. Therefore,
this would be considered no impact.
b -d) Based on a previous sub- service reconnaissance conducted with the Bernal
Property Specific Plan FEIR, an archaeological site was identified in the general
area of the supermarket and main entrance from Bernal Avenue.
The applicant is required, by a project condition of approval, to submit an
archeological mitigation program prepared by a licensed archaeologist with input
from the Native American Representative before the City will issue the first
grading /on -site permit. The applicant will implement the requirements and
measures of this program to the City's satisfaction and shall submit periodic status
reports to the City of Pleasanton and to the Native American Heritage
Commission. Upon completion, a final report, matching the format of the final
report submitted for CA- Ala- 613/H, dated March 2005, shall be submitted to the
City and to the Native American Heritage Commission.
A qualified archaeologist and the Native American Representative designated by
the Native American Heritage Commission shall be present on site during the
grading and trenching for the founciation(s), utility services, or other on -site
excavation, in order to determine if any bone, shell, or artifacts are uncovered. If
human remains are discovered, the City requires the applicant to:
• Stop site work immediately. The archaeologist and the Native American
Heritage Commission and or their representative shall be consulted to
develop, if necessary, further mitigation measures to reduce any
archaeological impact to a less- than - significant level before construction
continues.
• After the subsurface work is completed, the applicant shall have the
archaeologist produce and submit a letter to the City stating that they were on
site during the initial construction activities and the result of their observations
at the site.
• Prior to the issuance of any building permit, the applicant shall present a
contract or letter indicating the archaeologist who will be on site during the
initial construction activities.
Therefore, this would be a less - than - significant impact. (Archeological
mitigation may require raising the proposed grade elevations of the building pads
and parking /driveway area. Such minor modifications are within the scope of the
project description and, therefore, are covered by the Initial Study /Mitigated
Negative Declaration.)
Page 31 of 52 Pleasanton Gateway Initial Study August 2, 2010
