Pleasanton Gateway- Environmental Checklist
f) Conflict with the provisions of an adopted Habitat X
Conservation Plan, Natural Community Conservation
Plan, or other approved local, regional, or state habitat
conservation plan?
Discussion
a) The subject site is a relative level, vacant property. The site is planted in native
grasses to control erosion that have been cleared annually to reduce the potential
for grass fires. Based upon the flora /fauna analysis of the Bernal Property
Specific Plan Final EIR there are no known endangered, threatened, or rare
species of flora or fauna are known to inhabit the Pleasanton Gateway property or
vicinity, nor are there any trees on -site. Additionally, the site is outside the area
designated by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) as potential
Alameda Whipsnake habitat.
As conditioned, to avoid any possible impacts if project- construction is scheduled
to occur during the burrowing owl nesting season defined by the California
Department of Fish and Game (CDFG), a focused survey for active burrowing owl
nest sites shall be conducted by a qualified biologist 30 days prior to beginning
construction. Construction shall not take place if it is determined by the biologist
that such construction would disturb an active burrowing owl nest or burrow,
unless the biologist determines that the nesting birds will not be impacted by the
construction and a buffer area is established around the nest and maintained until
the young have fledged. Outside the breeding season, no pre- construction
breeding bird survey shall be required.
Therefore, this would be a less than - significant impact.
b -c) There are no wetland and /or riparian habitat areas on the project site. Stormwater
runoff from buildings and parking areas of this development will be required as a
condition of approval to be pretreated on the site by a system of bio- swales and /or
similar measures, and then piped to the stormwater detention ponds south of the
site on the City park land before being discharged into the Arroyo de la Laguna.
As required by a condition of approval, only organic herbicides and pesticides will
be used on the development's landscape areas. Therefore, this would be
considered no impact.
d -f) There is no known wildlife corridors on the project or an adopted Habitat
Conservation Plan, Natural Community Conservation Plan or other approved
local, regional or state habitat conservation plan applicable to this project.
Therefore, this would be considered no impact.
Page 29 of 52 Pleasanton Gateway Initial Study August 2, 2010
