BACKGROUND <br />The new Firehouse Arts Center will present 100 -120 City- offered programs during its <br />first year of operation. Firehouse Theater programs will include, but not be limited to, a <br />"Firehouse Presents" series of live theater, jazz, classical music, comedy, lectures, film, <br />cabaret -style entertainment, musical theater, a teen improvisation and open mike music <br />series; a "Firehouse Kids" series of matinee entertainments for young children and their <br />families; and a Civic Arts Stage Company series of theatrical productions for youth and <br />family audiences. In addition, the 2,000 sq. ft. Art Gallery will offer ten (10) art <br />exhibitions featuring the best works of local, regional, and national fine artists. <br />Publicity and Marketing services to support and promote these programs will include: <br />• Development of a comprehensive publicity plan. <br />• Creation and maintenance of a coordinated publicity timeline. <br />• Active maintenance and support of the Firehouse Brand. <br />• Oversight of the annual media event and publicity preview activities. <br />• Development and distribution of regular news releases, calendar <br />announcements, and development of responses to media inquiries. <br />• Coordination of electronic media efforts, i.e. website, social media, e- newsletters, <br />etc. <br />• Interface with all Firehouse programming and support staff, website design and <br />maintenance consultants. <br />• Communicate and coordinate all Firehouse Arts Center program publicity <br />activities with the City of Pleasanton Public Information Officer and related City - <br />generated publicity efforts, i.e. Firehouse Grand Opening publicity campaign, <br />"Pleasanton Today" newsletter, etc. <br />DISCUSSION <br />Staff distributed a Request for Proposal (RFP) to five (5) marketing firms. Three (3) of <br />the firms are based in Pleasanton. Two (2) are based in San Leandro and Oakland <br />respectively. Two (2) firms, Bumblebee Marketing of Pleasanton, and Attention <br />Business Communications of Pleasanton, submitted proposals. Both firms were <br />interviewed by staff. Attention Business Communications was determined to be the <br />most qualified firm to provide the type of required publicity /marketing services, given its <br />long track record of success working in the local media market, its substantial familiarity <br />with Civic Arts programs, and its growing expertise in the whole area of electronic <br />marketing strategies and techniques. <br />Staff is recommending that the City enter a one -year contract with Attention Business <br />Communications, with an option to renew for three (3) successive years. <br />Page 2 of 3 <br />
