June 15, 2010 Community Development Engineering Division TITLE: RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING THE FORMATION OF UNDERGROUND UTILITY DISTRICT NO. 09 -01, FOR STANLEY BOULEVARD BETWEEN SANTA RITA ROAD AND FIRST STREET SUMMARY On May 4, 2010, the City Council set the public hearing date for June 15, 2010 to receive public testimony on the proposed Resolution to establish the formation of the underground utility district. The proposed Underground Utility District No. 09 -01 will allow for undergrounding of the existing overhead utility lines on Stanley Boulevard, between Santa Rita Road and First Street. The District will be formed by approval of this resolution; however, the City is not obligated to complete project construction. Per direction of the City Council on October 20, 2009, staff will report back to the City Council with bid results prior to a decision being made to fund the construction cost of the Utility Undergrounding project. RECOMMENDATION 1. Conduct public hearing and receive public testimony. 2. At the close of the public hearing, if deemed appropriate, adopt a resolution establishing the formation of the Underground Utility District 09 -01. 3. Direct the City Clerk to mail a copy of the adopted resolution to the affected utility companies and to notify affected property owners and occupants within the District. FINANCIAL STATEMENT The construction cost of undergrounding the utilities will not be known until the Underground Utility District (UUD) has been designed and bids have been received. The underground utility district improvements, once accepted by the public utility companies, will be operated and maintained by the respective utility companies and have no financial impact on the City maintenance and operation cost.
