Alameda County Transportation Improvement Authority
Special Transportation for Seniors and People with Disabilities
24. PUBLIC INFORMATION AND OUTREACH
Describe planned outreach to ensure that potential users of the services (including
coordinated services) learn about them.
Response:
Marketing of PPS (Door -to -Door DTR) is completed through the City's Parks and
Community Services Department. PPS is promoted in the Activities Guide, which is
distributed three (3) times a year to all Pleasanton residents (26,000 households).
All new PPS clients receive information on Door -to -Door services, DTR and the Access
Alameda Transit Guide.
One -page PPS and DTR flyers are used as an inexpensive marketing piece, and are regularly
mailed to agencies working with seniors and the disabled.
The Fifth Annual PPS Transit Fair was held on March 17, 2010, and was well attended. It is
an excellent way for residents to get a variety of information on transit options.
PPS regularly participates in the annual Hometown Holiday Parade, which attracts over
10,000 people a year.
The City's website (www.ci.pleasanton.ca.us) was updated and includes additional transit
resources and links.
Local transit information is coordinated through collaborative marketing efforts with
LAVTA. All PPS oriented materials include information about LAVTA services, and vice
versa. Wheels route information and passes are available at the Pleasanton Senior Center.
The PPS Supervisor attends LAVTA's Wheels Accessible Advisory Committee meetings
and LAVTA staff attends PPS Task Force meetings.
Regular outreach fairs are held with LAVTA staff at local senior housing complexes, and are
very popular.
Senior and disabled BART passes and Wheels tickets are sold at the Pleasanton Senior
Center.
Monthly DTR outreach meetings are completed to local social service agencies, businesses,
fraternal organizations, medical offices and senior housing complexes.
Special event transit articles are featured in local newspapers.
PPS is listed in the Tri- Valley Pocket Guide for Human Services that was distributed to over
8,000 people in both Spanish and English.
