Alameda County Transportation Improvement Authority
Special Transportation for Seniors and People with Disabilities
The Pleasanton Paratransit Task Force continues to evaluate the service delivery system and
clients' needs. With 71% City General Fund support, it is critical that the services meet
residents' needs.
Some service changes that occurred in FY 2009 -10, and benefited riders, included:
Implementation of the new Volunteer Travel Ambassador Program which provides
trained volunteers as travel trainers for the local residents.
Expanded resources at the Annual Transit Fair so that residents can learn about more
transit options, as well as review their current driving practices to ensure safety.
Expanded coordination with Senior Support Program of the Tri- Valley Senior
Transportation Program to offer free same day medicals trips to those most frail
clients. This volunteer based door through- door program would otherwise not be
provided in the tri- valley.
On -going use of the Rider Assessment Service for those most frail clients that need
one -on -one specialized care and instructions in order to use public transit options.
On -going driver training and audits which expanded to training on the new 23-
passenger DTR bus.
Increased financial resources for PPS riders through the redesigned City of
Pleasanton Fee Assistance Program.
Completion of the one year evaluation of the DTR with expansion of daily service to
senior housing complexes and expanded service hours.
For FY 2010 -11, the following needs have been identified:
Maintain operations of the core PPS program Door -to -Door Service.
Expand the Volunteer Travel Ambassador Program to encourage new transit riders, as
well as to expand transit opportunities for those existing riders.
Use of existing staff resources to provide one -on -one Rider Assessment Services for
those most frail residents and riders.
Continue to refer same -day medical riders and those most frail riders requiring
through the –door service to Senior Support's Transportation Program.
Continue to provide outreach and education through expanded efforts of the Transit
Fair in March 2011.
Research funding opportunities to support the DTR program as a non -core City
service.
Research opportunities for volunteer escort programs to provide assistance to ADA
riders.
Unmet Needs
As a core City of Pleasanton service, the PPS Door -to -Door Program will continue to be the
first priority for general fund dollars. With a projected 71% subsidy in FY 2010 -11, staff is
hopeful that on -going dollars will be able to meet the existing needs.
