<br /> County, $25,000.00 Train students and institutionalize procedures to start and maintain a lunchtime waste reduction
<br /> program facilitating a "greening" the schools goal.
<br /> Grant 09 -24, Peralta Elementary School, Peralta Stewardship Project, Oakland, West County, $10,000.00
<br /> Primary goal of this grant is to weave quality reflective inquiry into environmental understanding and action by direct
<br /> attention to the resources we take for granted in our daily lives and on the school site.
<br /> Grant 09 -25, KIDS for the BAY, 4 R's Action Program, Berkeley, West County, $50,000.00 Deliver the Four
<br /> R's program and increase student awareness of the issues of resource conservation and waste reduction and change their
<br /> behavior to reduce, reuse, recycle and compost. Teachers will also learn to reduce, reuse, recycle and compost in their
<br /> classrooms and increase their confidence level in using the Four R's message as an educational resource to stimulate
<br /> student learning. The Four R's will also be integrated into the school curriculum and culture of our target schools.
<br /> Principals, teachers, students and parents will learn the value of reducing, reusing, recycling and composting and practice
<br /> these behaviors in their schools and at home.
<br /> Grant 09- 26(lst of 3 years), Alameda Unified School District (AUSD), Alameda Green School Challenge,
<br /> Alameda, West County, $57,000.00 The Alameda Unified School District, with the support of the Alameda Schools
<br /> Go Green parent- teacher principal district -staff group and the Community Action for a Sustainable Alameda, has
<br /> launched the Alameda Green Schools Challenge. The initiative aims to: implement comprehensive 4Rs curriculum and
<br /> infrastructure at all AUSD school sites and district facilities; reduce greenhouse gas emissions district -wide through waste
<br /> prevention, recycling and composting, energy efficiency; community education; promote culture change among our
<br /> students, parents, teachers, maintenance staff, and administrators.
<br /> Grant 09 -28, Fresh Approach, Zero Waste Farmers Market, Concord, West County, $10,000.00 This project
<br /> will provide public education at farmers markets highlighting the importance of recycling and composting.
<br /> A total of $229,420.00 was awarded from the project grant total funding allocation of $230,000.
<br /> Multi -Year Grants
<br /> The Education Advisory Board awarded 2 multi -year grants for the following projects:
<br /> Chabot Space and Science Center, 07 -13 (3rd and final year), Zero Waste College Intern Training Program,
<br /> Oakland, West County $50,000.00 The intern program will build experiences with teen and college student internship
<br /> programs and provide interns with valuable career awareness in waste management as well as giving them training and
<br /> real world experience in informal environmental education for youth K -12.
<br /> Hearst Elementary School, 08 -13 (2 of 3 years), Environmental Classroom, Pleasanton, East County $10,000
<br /> utilizing the GGI framework and the monies from this grant opportunity, the Hearst Community will continue to realize
<br /> and achieve our goal of understanding the global ecosystem through environmental stewardship in our own schoolyard.
<br /> A total of $60,000.00 was awarded from the multi -year grant total funding allocation of $60,000.
<br /> Board Initiated Projects
<br /> There were no Board Initiated Projects during the 2009 grant cycle.
<br /> ALARM Mitigation Projects
<br /> Pursuant to the terms of the settlement agreement, the 2009 2009 Funding Allocations
<br /> Expenditure Plan set aside $10,000 for mitigation projects for Total Allocations for 2009 were as follows:
