Grant 09 -41, Cleveland Elementary School, Cleveland Recycling Program, Oakland, West County, $2,886.00 <br /> Cleveland does not currently have a system to sort school garden compostables or municipal compostables and the <br /> paper /container recycling program needs to be expanded. Funds from this grant will create and implement a school wide <br /> recycling/composting program. <br /> Grant 09 -42, Glenview Elementary School, Bag it! Tag It! Book and book bag dedication program, Oakland, <br /> West County, $3,000.00 replace plastic bags currently in use, with canvas, reusable book bags. Canvas bags are larger <br /> and can hold more books, also increasing the number of books children can take home. <br /> Grant 09 -43, Logan High School, Logan Recycling Stations, Union City, West County, $1,900.00 this project <br /> will serve 4100 students, 200 staff members, and over 18 years and numerous community event attendees of all ages. <br /> Students will be collecting recyclables every week as part of their curriculum. Students can earn community service for <br /> teaching /monitoring the recycling stations during lunches and events. Bins will also aid in campus cleanliness. <br /> Grant 09 -44 through 09 -49, Logan High School, Logan Recycling Stations, Union City, West County, 6 mini <br /> grants $3,000.00 each for a total of $18,000.00 this project will serve 4100 students, 200 staff members, and over <br /> 18 years and numerous community event attendees of all ages. Students will be collecting recyclables every week as part <br /> of their curriculum. Students can earn community service for teaching/monitoring the recycling stations during lunches <br /> and events. Bins will also aid in campus cleanliness. <br /> The total 2009 Expenditure Plan budget of $100,000 for mini grants was approved by the Board along with the <br /> option to expend any remaining carryover mini -grant funds in 2010 from prior years. A total of $98,906.00 in <br /> mini grants was awarded from the 2009 mini -grant funds. This distribution of mini -grant funds has left a <br /> remaining balance of $1,094.00 for mini -grant funding. The Board has reissued the mini -grant application <br /> announcement and will entertain applications for mini grants throughout the year. <br /> Project Grants <br /> The Education Advisory Board awarded 10 project grants to the following projects: <br /> Grant 09 -18, San Francisco Department of the Environment, Food to Flowers!, San Francisco, West County, <br /> $10,000.00 The Department of the Environment for the City and County of San Francisco (SF Environment) will use <br /> the grant funds to increase diversion in the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) and San Francisco's private <br /> schools by expanding our School Education Program. In conjunction with a variety of educational program offerings, we <br /> will help school develop infrastructure to support and increase waste diversion and provide the resources needed to <br /> sustain those programs. This project will work in partnership with Norcal Waste Systems; San Francisco's permitted <br /> waste and recycling hauler, as well as SFUSD and private schools. <br /> Grant 09 -19, Livermore High School, Paperless Tests Students using Electronic Response devices, Livermore, <br /> East County, $10,688.00 The grant's main purpose will be to institute student operated test taking devices to eliminate <br /> paper tests, and eliminate paper answer sheets. This use of relevant technology will invigorate student interest in <br /> environmental issues, including REDUCTION of the use of paper, so paper does not end up in the landfill. <br /> Grant 09 -20, The East Bay Depot for Creative Reuse, Program for Educators, Oakland, West County, <br /> $10,000.00 The goals of this project are: pilot incentive programs for educators to come to the Depot facility including <br /> weekend project demonstrations, free project materials and field trip opportunities, address economic concerns for <br /> Alameda County educators by ensuring access to local reuse center that offers low cost school supplies and project <br /> materials, broaden outreach efforts, expand on partnerships with organizations dedicated to education, evaluate educator <br /> needs, hire a trained educator, and create a presence for teachers that the Depot Facility is a Re -use Education Center. <br /> Grant 09 -21, Livermore High School, Recycle station for Livermore Sports Stadium, Livermore, East County, <br /> $31,732.00 The main purpose of this grant is to blanket the Livermore High School Football/Track/Lacrosse/ <br /> Soccer /Graduation complex with recognizable and easy to use recycle stations. <br /> Grant 09 -22, Alameda Point Collaborative, APC Bike Shop Recycling Project, Alameda, West County, <br /> $15,000.00 The innovative project will divert 13.2 tons of bicycle waste from the landfills, train (2) formerly homeless <br /> residents in reuse and recycling related jobs, and educate more than 150 youth about the importance of reuse, reduce, and <br /> recycle. In this project; youth will be taught how to repair and maintain discarded bicycles, provide job training and job <br /> creation for APC residents, provide low income residents with recycled bicycles, and sell recycled bicycles to generate <br /> funds to build self sufficiency for the bike shop. <br />
