THE CITY OF <br /> 12 <br /> p S�NTONC CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br /> 1 <br /> LE April 6, 2010 <br /> Parks and Community Services <br /> TITLE: APPROVE AN AGREEMENT WITH JACK STORMS FOR THE DESIGN, <br /> FABRICATION AND INSTALLATION OF AN OPTIC GLASS BELL <br /> SCULPTURE TO BE PLACED AT THE FIREHOUSE ARTS CENTER <br /> SUMMARY <br /> Pleasanton residents Gary and Nancy Harrington have commissioned Red Bluff artist <br /> Jack Storms to design, fabricate and install an optical glass bell- shaped sculpture to be <br /> installed adjacent to the west entrance (Railroad Avenue) of the Firehouse Arts Center. <br /> The project was approved by the Civic Arts Commission at its February 1, 2010 <br /> meeting. All necessary preliminary engineering and construction coordination has been <br /> reviewed and facilitated by City engineering staff, the Firehouse's architect and <br /> construction manager. <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> 1. Approve the design of the optic glass bell sculpture and its support structure <br /> 2. Accept this gift of public art from Gary and Nancy Harrington for installation in the <br /> Firehouse Arts Center <br /> 3. Approve the attached Agreement for Artwork <br /> CIVIC ARTS COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION <br /> 1. Approve the design of the optic glass bell sculpture and its support structure <br /> 2. Accept this gift of public art from Gary and Nancy Harrington for installation in the <br /> Firehouse Arts Center <br /> 3. Approve the attached Agreement for Artwork <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> The cost of the Glass Bell Sculpture will be 34,925. Pleasanton residents Gary and <br /> Nancy Harrington have donated the funds necessary to complete the project and these <br /> have been placed in the City's Public Art Acquisition Fund (Fund #038 900 4493). Bob <br /> Mattos, owner of Bras Mattos Monument Company in Hayward, has generously <br /> offered to supply the granite pedestal for this art piece. As a result, the project will be <br /> completed at no cost to the City. <br />
