IN THE AMOUNT OF $114,889 FOR THE PERMIT <br /> CENTER REMODELING PROJECT, CIP NO. 098037 <br /> SUMMARY <br /> The City has found that customers feel a "pinball effect" as a result of being shuffled <br /> between various division counters within the Community Development Department. <br /> The goal in the remodel of the Permit Center is to create a state -of- the -art permit center <br /> where customers are seated at a single counter and the appropriate employees are <br /> brought out to discuss the customer's projects and questions. The project is in keeping <br /> the City's objective of providing excellent customer service and fostering <br /> interdepartmental partnerships on behalf of the community. <br /> Plans and specifications were prepared for the Permit Center Remodel Project at <br /> 200 Old Bernal Avenue. Bids have been received and staff is recommending award of <br /> the construction contract to the lowest responsible bidder, Cal -Bay Construction, Inc., in <br /> the amount of $114,889. <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> 1. Approve the plans and specifications for the Project. <br /> 2. Review the bids received and award the construction contract to Cal -Bay <br /> Construction, Inc. of San Leandro, California in the amount of $114,889. <br /> 3. Authorize the City Manager to enter into a construction contract with Cal -Bay <br /> Construction, Inc., and approve costs related to furniture and fixtures. <br /> 4. Authorize the Director of Community Development to approve and execute, if <br /> necessary, contract change orders in an amount not to exceed $29,945. <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> The City's adopted Two Year Capital Improvement Program (CIP) includes funding in <br /> the amount of $250,000 for the Project. In addition to the construction contract and <br /> contingency, the construction budget includes FF &E's (furniture for the Permit Center), <br /> moving expenses and Architectural Services related to the Project (see Attachment 2 <br /> for a detail of funding and estimated expenditures). <br />
