THE CITY OF 10 <br /> CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br /> pL£ASANTONo <br /> December 1, 2009 <br /> Community Development <br /> Engineering Division <br /> TITLE: ACCEPTANCE OF PUBLIC IMPROVEMENTS PERFORMED BY JOHN D. <br /> BAKER CONSTRUCTION COMPANY FOR THE TRAFFIC SIGNAL <br /> INSTALLATION AT THE INTERSECTION OF BERNAL AVENUE AND I- <br /> 680 FREEWAY SOUTHBOUND OFF -RAMP (CIP NO. 005068) AND THE <br /> COMPLETION OF THE TRAFFIC SIGNAL SYSTEM AT VINEYARD <br /> AVENUE AND PIETRONAVE LANE (CIP NO. 075014) <br /> SUMMARY <br /> The subject project consisted of two separate improvements: (1) installing a complete <br /> traffic signal system at the intersection of Bernal Avenue and 1 -680 Freeway <br /> southbound off -ramp and, (2) completing the traffic signal system at the intersection of <br /> Vineyard Avenue and Pietronave Lane. The scope of work at each location was similar <br /> and required the same level of contractor licensing. The City awarded the <br /> improvements under one contract in an effort to minimize the overall administrative <br /> effort and cost. The combined project is complete and ready for acceptance by the City <br /> Council. <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> 1. Accept the improvements for this project. <br /> 2. Authorize the City Clerk to file a Notice of Completion for the subject project. <br /> 3. Authorize payment of the retention in the amount of $24,985.05 to John D. Baker <br /> Construction thirty days after recordation of the Notice of Completion, and upon <br /> satisfaction of all stop notices. <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> This project would increase costs for maintaining and operating the two traffic signal <br /> systems. Annual maintenance and power costs per signal are approximately $1,752 <br /> and $750, respectively. <br />
