THE CITY OF 2
pL£ASANTON0 CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
December 1, 2009
City Attorney's Office
TITLE: ADOPT POLICY FOR THE DISTRIBUTION OF EVENT TICKETS
SUMMARY
The California Fair Political Practices Commission has enacted a regulation that
requires that the City adopt a written policy for the distribution of event tickets which are
received or purchased by the City to ensure that the use of such tickets serves a public
purpose. The proposed policy meets these requirements by: listing the permissible
public purposes for the use of such tickets; establishing the City Manager as the official
to administer the policy; clarifying exemptions; and formalizing reporting on the City's
website.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council approve the attached resolution adopting the
Policy for the Distribution of Event Tickets. (Attachment 1)
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
This action has no financial impact because it effectively formalizes the current duties of
the City Manager to ensure that event tickets received or purchased by the City are
used for a public purpose. Reporting the use of such tickets on the City's website would
only require de minimis effort by staff in the City Clerk's Office and Information
Technology Division, and would be part of their normal duties.
