36 <br />PETITIONS HECEIVED: <br />Application for dance permit was received from the Rebekah <br />Lodge for the night of 'March 29. <br />RECESS was ordered for examination of Jlaims and Reports. <br />ACTION ON uLAIMS: The meeting was again called to order and on <br />motion of Councilman Hansen, seconded by Councilman Mezza and ap- <br />proved by all Councilmen present, it was ordered that Claims Nos. <br />579 to 602 incl., amounting to 4,056.51, be paid as presented. <br />ACTION ON COMMUNICATIONS: The Clerk was instructed to thank <br />Sheriff Gleason for his cooperation in offering use of the Santa <br />Rita prison for holding women prisoners. <br />ACTION ON PETITIONS: Application of the Rebekahs for permission <br />to hold a dance on the night of March 29th was approved. <br />COMMITTEE REPORTS: <br />LAWS AND JUDICIARY: No report due to absence of Councilman Brenner. <br />STREETS AND BUILDINGS: Councilman Oxsen reported that Pete Madsen <br />had been authorized by the owner to make required changes at the <br />Frudden Store and would do so as soon as he could get some brick. <br />He also reported that Mrs. Cope had called his attention to a hazard <br />from possible falling limbs at the school childrens' crossing on <br />Main Street and that he would endeavor to have the P. G. & E. Co. <br />trim the trees. He advised that the sidewalk survey was partially <br />completed and that he had investigated street lighting on Angela St. <br />and found it to be adequate, but some tree trimming is necessary. , <br />He also reported that preliminary investigation indicated that <br />parallel parking on the west side of Main Street between Rose Ave. <br />and Angela Street would reduce parking spaces by one -half. Chief <br />of Police Deluechi and Supt. of Streets Fredricksen were directed <br />to make an actual count of the nuOber of parking spaces with diag- <br />onal parking and with parallel parking. After some discussion the <br />Council agreed to not buy a street sweeper at this time. <br />FIRE DEPT. AND CITY HALL: Councilman Hansen reported that Mrs. <br />Smallwood and Mrs. Stoval had requested that . if possible, the Town <br />water and clean up the park at the rear of the City Hall. He also <br />stated that Supervisor Stanley had suggested to Fire Chief Amaral <br />that a letter be forwarded to the Board of Supervisors requesting <br />that the County replace 600 feet of fire hose damaged at the recent <br />Fair Grounds fire. The Clerk was directed to forward the letter. <br />The Clerk was also directed to forward a letter to the Fire Chief <br />requesting information as to the status of the County owned equip-/ <br />ment now in custody of the Pleasanton Fire Dept. and also to advise' <br />him that for the present this equipment was not to be used on Town <br />fires. <br />PUBLIC UTILITIES: Councilman Mezza reported that negotiations for <br />disposal of sludge at the Sewer Farm to E. B. Stone & Son had been <br />completed and the sludge would be removed as soon as the weather <br />permitted; that the Sewer Farm and McKinley Park had been disoed and <br />cleaned up; that 450 feet of 4" pipe had been ordered for Pleasanton <br />Ave; that a pipe pusher had been ordered; and that some trees at <br />McKinley Park were dying. He also advised that the water meter on <br />the line serving the old Carter place was to be placed at the City <br />Limits on Bernal Ave. The Clerk was instructed to bill consumers <br />on the Sunol Road line for all water passing the master meter at <br />the City Limits. <br />CITY ATTORNEY NILSON :advised the Council that the Telephone 9ompany <br />application for increased rates would be investigated by the State <br />Utilities uommission. He also reported that County Surveyor Boggs <br />would initiate a Resolution stating the County's willingness to <br />accept Pleasanton Ave. as a County Road and that the Western Pacific <br />was willing to pay their share of the cost of curb . and gutter but <br />the Town might be requested to pay for the curb and gutter from <br />Rose Ave. to Angela St. <br />CHIEF OF POLICE DELUCCHI reported that several plate'glass windows, <br />had been found broken at 5 A.M. Sunday, March 2, and that they had <br />apparently been broken by rocks from a sling shot. <br />
