12 <br />PETITIONS RECEIVED: None <br />RECESS was ordered for examination of claims and reports. <br />The meeting was again called to order and Councilman Mezza was called <br />upon for the report of the Public Utilities Committee. He reported that <br />Mr. Yount of the San Francisco Water Dept. had promised to improve the <br />pumps but as yet no work had been done. The tank at the Sewer Farm <br />had been cleaned. He recommended the installation of new lighting at <br />McKinley Park, and advised that F. Adams had requested water service <br />to his 3" main on Vineyard Avenue. Councilman Mezza was excused from <br />the meeting at 8:45 P.M. <br />ACTION ON CLAIMS AND REPORTS: <br />On motion of Councilman Hansen, seconded by Councilman Brenner and <br />approved by all Councilmen present, it was ordered that Claims Nos. <br />395 to 419, inclusive, amounting to §1,082.13, be paid as presented. <br />A11 Officers' reports were approved and ordered filed. <br />ACTION ON COMMUNICATIONS: <br />The Clerk was directed to advise the E. B. League of Calif. Cities <br />that the Sales Tax questionnaire had not been received and that the <br />council favored adoption of a 1% Sales Tax even tho the tax would <br />have to be collected by the City instead of by the State Board of <br />Equalization. <br />It was ordered that the Western Pacific R.R. letter be acknowledged <br />with a statement of appreciation of the Railroad's action. <br />The Clerk was also directed to prepare an answer to the Senate Com- <br />mittee on State and Local Taxation outlining the Town's financial <br />problems with special reference to the sewage disposal problem. <br />Councilman Oxsen was directed to investigate the women's Improvement <br />Club complaint re the trees and to prepare a reply. <br />The Clerk was ordered to acknowledge the letter from Carl Frudden <br />and to advise him that a building permit should be secured. <br />All other communications were ordered filed. <br />COMMITTEE REPORTS: <br />LAWS AND JUDICIARY: Councilman Brenner acknowledged the efficient <br />police work during the Fair and thanked the Water Dept. for assis- <br />tance rendered. He also advised that the new Police car was expected <br />about August 8th, that the interior of the jail was in need of paint- <br />ing and that low branches on trees were obscuring certain railway <br />crossing wig -wags. <br />STREETS AND BUILDINGS: Councilman Oxsen recommended that a dump <br />truck be procured at an early date. He advised that Mr. Sykes had <br />abandoned his efforts to secure signatures to a petition to install <br />curbs and gutters on 3rd Street and pointed out that the lack of these <br />gutters would cause considerable more damage to the pavement on <br />Angela Street between 2nd and 3rd. He also suggested and the Council <br />agreed that property owners on Main Streetshuld be requested to re- <br />pair all damaged sidewalks. He also reported that the Council <br />members had inspected the proposed dump site at the old brick yard <br />and found it to be suitable. It was decided• to take the matter up <br />with Supervisor Stanley to see.if some arrangement for joint City <br />and County use could be made. Councilman Oxsen also stated that he <br />had been requested to ask the Council if the Town would take over <br />the Pleasanton Township Water District Water System. It was decided <br />that the District deuld present a formal offer before the Council <br />took any action on the matter. <br />FIRE DEPT. AND CITY HALL: Councilman Hansen reported that he was <br />still trying to get the contractor to start work on repairs to the <br />City Hall. <br />The Mayor then brought up the matter of milk inspection fees and <br />asked Atty. Nilson for an opinion as to what fees could be legally <br />collected. The Atty. stated that he was investigating the matter <br />and suggested a possible revision of the Ordinance to straighten <br />it out. <br />The Mayor reported some informal complaint against the factory <br />building being erected on Hose Avenue. <br />
