RESOLUTION NO. <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON, TO <br /> ESTABLISH THE CITY OF PLEASANTON'S DISASTER COUNCIL, ESTABLISH A <br /> CITIZENS CORPS COUNCIL, AND BECOME AN EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS <br /> PARTNER WITH THE ALAMEDA COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH DEPARTMENT <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council of Pleasanton deemed Disaster Preparedness as a vital <br /> priority for the 2009 -2010 budget cycle; and <br /> WHEREAS, the possibility of a natural or manmade disaster in the Bay Area is a reality <br /> that must be considered; and <br /> WHEREAS, local agencies both public and private may be impacted by a widespread <br /> disaster; and <br /> WHEREAS, local utilities, transportation, medical facilities, the community, businesses, <br /> the school district, affiliated volunteers and /or the Alameda County Public Health will need to <br /> coordinate response and recovery efforts with the City of Pleasanton; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Pleasanton constantly strives to serve its community <br /> stakeholders in times of disaster; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Disaster Council would include representatives from the City Manager's <br /> Office, City departments, fire, police and the community to include agency- appointed <br /> representative from the school district, utilities, medical center, business, faith based, and <br /> special needs organizations. <br /> WHEREAS, the Citizen Corps Council could include affiliated volunteers of the <br /> Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Neighborhood Watch, Volunteers in Police <br /> Service, and amateur radio operators. <br /> WHEREAS, an emergency preparedness partnership with the Alameda County Public <br /> Health Department will enable the city to receive supplies, equipment and <br /> medicines /vaccinations to provide its citizens when pandemic flu or bioterrorism events occur. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Pleasanton does hereby <br /> establish Disaster Council and will look forward to future reports on the achievements of this <br /> group in working with our local emergency planning partners towards a disaster resilient <br /> community; establishes the Citizen Corps Council; and, creates an emergency preparedness <br /> partnership with the Alameda County Public Health Department. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br /> PLEASANTON DOES RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER THE FOLLOWING: <br /> Section 1: To establish the City of Pleasanton's Disaster Council to strengthen emergency <br /> planning efforts with its local partners. <br />
