Underwriters Laboratory (UL) listing for residential fire sprinklers with a <br />minimum flow rate of 0.05 gallons per minute per square foot. This is <br />based on the UL 1626 residential fire sprinkler product standard. When <br />the number of design sprinklers is less than three (3) for a compartment, <br />the design shall include a five (5) gallon per minute domestic use <br />simultaneous with sprinkler flow per unit. This domestic use shall be <br />calculated at the base of riser. <br /> <br />Pilot sprinklers shall be provided in the attic and between floors where <br />floor/ceiling assemblies consist of open web wood joists or trusses. Pilot <br />sprinklers shall be 212 degree F, 7/16 inch orifice. Pilot sprinklers shall be <br />located at maximum 30 feet centers (Maximum 15 feet from outside walls) <br />and shall be located at all heat and fire sources including furnaces, hot <br />water heaters, above kitchen rang,es, etc. Fire sprinklers in garages shall be <br />200 degree F, quick response, U16 inch orifice (K=4.0 to 4.5) with a <br />maximum spacing of 130 to 150 square feet per sprinkler. <br /> <br />(b) Standard for Mid-Sized Multi-Family Residential Sprinkler <br />Systems for Five (5) to Fifteen (15) Dwelling Units in Residential <br />Structures Not Exceeding twelve thousand remote six (6) sprinklers above <br />or below the ceiling. When a common fire sprinkler and domestic water <br />supply is provided, the fire sprinkler calculation shall include the <br />simultaneous domestic flow of five (5) gallons per minute per dwelling <br />unit. This domestic flow shall be calculated at the base of the riser.does <br />not include hotels, motels, or day care centers with more than twelve (12) <br />occupants. <br /> <br />(c) Sprinklers shall be provided in attics and between floors where <br />floor/ceiling assemblies consist of open web wood joists or trusses. <br /> <br />Exception: Townhouses with approved one-hour separations at the <br />property line shall have pilot sprinklers per (a) above. <br /> <br />CHAPTER 4-System Design - amended <br /> <br />Section 4-1.3- Water Demand is amended to read: <br /> <br />(a.) One (1) to four (4) dwelling units. <br /> <br />The water demand for the system shall be determined by multiplying the <br />design area of the largest compartment by the specified application rate. <br />Additional demand is required for domestic use as specified in Section 4- <br />1.2.1 (above). <br /> <br />28 <br /> <br /> <br />
