one (1) calendar week. Said leaves shall be reported to the Deputy City <br /> Manager/Director of Human Resources. In addition, the employee's leave <br /> balances shall be taken into account in the City Manager's consideration of the <br /> request. The City Manager will also consider the City's ability to get the work <br /> tasks accomplished in the employee's absence. <br /> During said leave, an employee shall not accrue vacation or sick leave benefits or <br /> be eligible for holidays, nor shall such time be considered as service time. <br /> 14.3 Extended Medical Leave <br /> Any regular or probationary employee who is temporarily disabled from work due <br /> to a medical condition may, upon written request to the Department Head and the <br /> Deputy City Manager/Director of Human Resources, be granted by the City <br /> Manager, a leave of absence without pay for a period not to exceed six (6) months - <br /> beyond the exhaustion of any accrued sick leave. <br /> The term medical disability includes all temporary medical disabilities including <br /> pregnancy, childbirth and associated medical conditions. Total approved paid and <br /> unpaid time away from work because of medical disability prior to and after the <br /> birth of a child, shall not exceed one hundred twenty (120) days. <br /> Such request for medical leave will be considered only upon provision of a <br /> physician's statement attesting to said disability. <br /> During extended medical leave, an employee shall not accrue vacation or sick <br /> leave benefits or be eligible for holidays, nor shall such time be considered as <br /> service time. Any employee returning from medical leave shall be required to <br /> provide a physician's release to return to duty. <br /> 14.4 Jury Leave <br /> Every employee of the City who is called or required to serve as a juror shall be <br /> entitled to leave from his/her duties with the City during the period of such <br /> service or while necessarily being present in court as a result of such call. The <br /> employee shall be paid the difference between his/her full salary and any payment <br /> received by him/her, except travel pay, for such duty. <br /> 14.5 Leaves Resulting from Subpoena <br /> Leave of absence with pay shall be granted to a person while going to and from <br /> court and answering a subpoena as a witness. The employee shall be paid the <br /> difference between his/her full salary and any payment received by him/her, <br /> except travel pay, for such duty. <br /> -18 - <br />
