6.5 Salary Step When Salary Range is Increased <br /> Whenever the monthly schedule of compensation for a class is revised, each <br /> incumbent in a position to which the revised schedule applies shall be entitled to <br /> the step in the revised range which corresponds to the step held by him/her in the <br /> previous range. <br /> 6.6 Salary Step After Promotion or Demotion <br /> When an employee is promoted from a position in one class to a position in a <br /> higher class, he /she shall receive the minimum rate for the higher class; provided, <br /> however, that such rate is at least five percent (5 %) above his/her current wage <br /> rate. When an employee is demoted, whether such demotion is voluntary or <br /> otherwise, that employee's compensation shall be adjusted to the salary prescribed <br /> for the class to which he/she is demoted. The specific rate of pay within the range - <br /> shall be determined by the City Manager, whose decision shall be final; provided, <br /> however, that the employee's rate of pay shall not be set at a lower rate than <br /> he /she would have received had he /she remained in the lower class. <br /> Section 7. Hours of Work <br /> 7.1 Standard Workweek <br /> The standard work -week for all full time employees shall consist of five (5) <br /> consecutive eight (8) hour work days. <br /> 7.2 Alternative Workweek <br /> Alternate workday or workweek periods may be authorized by the Department <br /> Head or City Manager to accommodate temporary business needs such as special <br /> scheduled events or projects, or work - related certification testing, that may <br /> require work on a weekend or different hours than the standard workweek (see <br /> section 7.1 for definition of standard workweek). Depending on the event or <br /> project, this could involve: <br /> • Altering the workweek to include a workday on Saturday and/or Sunday. <br /> In this instance, the employee's alternate day(s) off shall be scheduled at <br /> the beginning or end of the employee's remaining workweek, except <br /> under circumstances of unusual scheduling, workload, or by mutual <br /> agreement with the Department Head, when the day(s) off may be <br /> midweek. <br /> • Elongating the workday to 9 or 10 hours, and shortening the workweek. <br /> -9 - <br />
