Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan Initial Study
Tha co. -struction c4,ntractor shall construct temporary (.,r pert..a..ent) noise walls .,r baffles
b, twin the existing residential uses and the proposed senior community.
When working adjacent to residential buildings on the senior community, the project sponsors
shall require the contractor(s) to use hydraulically or electrically powered impact tools (e.g., jack
hammers, pavement breakers, and rock drills) wherever possible to avoid noise associated with
compressed air exhaust from pneumatically powered tools. However, where use of pneumatically
powered tools is unavoidable, the contractor(s) shall use an exhaust muffler on the compressed air
exhaust; this muffler can lower noise levels from the exhaust by up to about 10 dBA. External
jackets on the tools themselves would be used where feasible, and this could achieve a 5 -dBA
reduction.
Construction noise would result in a less- than significant effect with implementation of these measures.
Less Than
Signi /icant
Potentially Impact With Less Than
Significant Mitigation Significant No
I ssues Impact Incotporated Impact Impact
12. Population and Housing —Would the project::
a) Induce substantial population growth in an area, either X
directly (for example, by proposing new homes and
businesses) or indirectly (for example, through extension
of roads or other infrastructure)?
b) Displace substantial numbers of existing housing, 1 X
necessitating the construction of replacement housing
elsewhere?
c) Displace substantial numbers of people, necessitating the LJ X
construction of replacement housing elsewhere?
Significance Criteria
The impact questions above constitute the significance criteria for this environmental topic.
Discussion of Checklist Items
No Impacts. The proposed Master Plan would provide alternative transportation trails, bicycle routes,
and sidewalks for residents and employees to travel on. These pathways would not either directly or
indirectly induce population growth in the same way that new roadways may induce growth; they would
accommodate existing residents and employees.
No trails are planned that would displace housing. In addition, the proposed Master Plan would not
result in displacing any housing or residents due to its implementation.
Revised 9/4/09 26 9/4/2009
