THE CITY OF 2 <br /> CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br /> pLE ASANTON® <br /> September 15, 2009 <br /> Administrative Services <br /> TITLE: ADOPT A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO <br /> SERVE AS THE AUTHORIZED REPRESENTATIVE FOR <br /> REGISTRATION WITH MANDATORY MEDICARE AND MEDICAID <br /> REPORTING <br /> SUMMARY <br /> The Medicare, Medicaid, and SCHIP (State Children's Health Insurance Program) <br /> Extension Act of 2007 (Medicare Extension Act) requires health insurers and third -party <br /> administrators (TPA's) to submit data to the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services <br /> (CMS) when the coordination of health benefits is required between a health provider <br /> and Medicare. As an employer, the City is subject to Medicare Extension Act. The <br /> attached resolution would designate the City Manager as the City's representative for <br /> registration and reporting purposes under the Medicare Extension Act. <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> Adopt a resolution authorizing the City Manager to serve as the City's authorized <br /> representative as part of compliance with the Medicare Extension Act. <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> There is no financial impact for designating the City's authorized representative. <br />
