The City shall not alter or modify the work without conferring with the artist.
If the City sells the work, the artist has right of first refusal to repurchase upon the
same terms offered to others.
Artist must be given notice if the City intends to destroy the work and artist has
the right to recover the work.
The artist retains the right of authorship of the work.
In addition, Ms. Turman will fabricate, assemble and transport the signage to the site,
and supervise its installation in cooperation with O'Connor staff and the construction
staff of W.A. Thomas Co., General Contractor for the project.
DISCUSSION
Two signs will be fabricated by Ms. Turman, each saying: "Firehouse Arts Center."
One will be placed upon the canopy of the Railroad Avenue entrance. The second will
be placed over the Lions Wayside Park entrance to the facility. The Railroad Avenue
entrance sign will be visible from Main Street as one looks down Division Street to the
facility. The Lions Wayside entrance sign will be visible from various points along the
park and adjoining First Street. Each letter will be hand forged, hammered and finished
and assembled by the artist a true original work of art. The sign will indeed be
included as part of the City's public art collection and will be appropriately labeled and
titled as such. A primary letter will be forged and hand shaped from steel and coated in
a bronze /brown color weather resistant finish. A secondary larger letter, fabricated from
contrasting stainless steel will serve as a dramatic backing. Letters will be as tall as 22
inches. LED lighting will be installed between the two letters for the entire length of the
signs: red for the Railroad Avenue entrance, blue for the Lions Wayside entrance, and
will provide a dramatic evening visual experience. The artist has carefully coordinated
her design, colors, and construction methods in order to coordinate the signage with the
glass art marquees that will also be installed on each side of the facility, and to create a
classic, yet vibrant, complementary amenity for the Firehouse Arts Center.
Submitted by: Fiscal Review: Approve by:
o
Susan Andrade -Wax David P.
