DRAFT MASTOR PLAN FOR THE DPTS

~
. ~

u

MAIN STREET BRIDGE
RECOMMENDATIONS

The OPTS Master Plan recommends the
improvement of the Main St. Bridge to make it
more esthetically pleasing, and more appropriate as
a major entry dement, marking the entry into
downtown Pleasanton.

The bridge should include decorative street
lights, planters for annual color, and railings more
decorative than those existing, painted a subtle, clas-
sic color. The possibility of widening the pedestrian
area to the edge of the existing suPPOrt structure
should be investigated.

The Main St. Bridge is a prominent civic de-
ment in the downtown srreetscape. It should be part
of, and stylistically harmonious with, the many
other dements of the downtown and Main St. area.
As such, it should not be of a particular or singular
architectural style, such as "Western," or "Spanish."
For this same reason, it should not be an anonymous
grey bridge, but have a simple, decorative character.
The Main St. Bridge should reflect rhe civic quality
which inspires the rest of the Main St. area.

All improvements to the bridge should be made
with the approval of the City Traffic Engineer and
the City Engineer.

Abov<:
Propos<d dtsign
fOr Main Str<<t
Bndg.,
B.Iow:
S~(tion at
Bridg. with
planurs on
th( outsidt
(looking north).

-

ifl
I
,,~
!fJ
Ii. ~
- .../........

.Ii

.,. .. ,.-~

MAIN STREET BRIDGE DESIGN RECOMMENDATIONS
47

Ilil II I
