DRAFT MASTER PLAN FOR THE OPTS

Abo"<:
Main St. Bridg<
(waking south).
&Iow:
Main St. Bridg<
(from Main St. Grun).

MAIN STREET BRIDGE
EXISTING CONDITIONS

The Bridge over Main St., at the Arroyo del
Valle, is an auto and pedestrian bridge built in the
late 1950's. It is generally flat, though crowned in
the middle, and constructed of steel-reinforced con-
crete. The roadbed is on girders, supported by two
pier walls in the creek and abutments in the creek
banks. The surface of Main St. at the bridge is
approximately 20 ft. above the creek.

The bridge contains a pedestrian walkway on
each side, separated from the roadbed by a change in
elevation (roughly 6 in.) and an oversized concrete
curb (roughly 10 in. sq.). A galvanized steel tube rail
supported by short posts (spaced at 10 - 15 ft. a.c.)
is located on top of the curb. The outer galvanized
steel railings are on the outside of the pedestrian
walkway. These railings are supported by steel pick-
ets (spaced at 7 in. a.c.) and posts (spaced at 10 -
15 ft. a.c.).

Street lights, of the eype used on Main St., are
located at the north and south ends of the bridge, on
each side. From the north, the post for the light
supports two signs: "Welcome to Downtown" and
"Arroyo del Valle."

In the 1990's, the bridge was upgraded for seis-
mic strengthening.

MAIN STREET BRIDGE DESIGN RECOMMENDATIONS
46
