"20.20.030 Enforcement. <br /> <br /> This chapter and the adopted National Electrical <br /> Code shall be enforced by the director of building <br /> inspection of the city acting either directly or <br /> through properly authorized agents acting within <br /> the scope of the particular duties delegated to <br /> them by the director of building inspection. For <br /> such purpose the director of building inspection or <br /> the agents thereof shall have the powers of a <br /> police officer. <br /> <br /> 20.20.040 Interpretation. <br /> <br /> The language used in this chapter and in the <br /> adopted National Electrical Code is intended to <br /> convey the common and accepted meaning familiar to <br /> the electrical industry. Should any question <br /> arise, the director of building inspection is <br /> authorized to determine the intent and meaning of <br /> any provision of this chapter and the adopted Code. <br /> Such determinations shall be made in writing and a <br /> record shall be kept in the office of the <br /> department of building inspection, which record <br /> shall be available to interested parties. <br /> <br /> 20.20.050 Variances. <br /> <br /> The director of building inspection shall have <br />the power to grant a variance to any of the <br />provisions of the adopted National Electrical Code <br />upon application in writing by the affected party, <br />or his duly authorized agent, when there are <br />practical difficulties in the way of carrying out <br />the strict letter of the Code, provided that the <br />spirit of the Code shall be observed, public <br />health, safety and welfare secured, and substantial <br />justice done. The particulars of such variance and <br />the decision of the director of building inspection <br />shall be entered in the records of the department <br />the building inspection of the city, and a signed <br />copy furnished the applicant. The granting of any <br />variance shall not be construed to imply or fix any <br />liability on the part of the city or any officer or <br />employee thereof for any damages to persons or <br />property by reason of such variance. <br /> <br />20.20.060 Appeals. <br /> <br /> Whenever the director of building inspection <br />shall disapprove an application or refuse to grant <br />a permit applied for, or when it is claimed that <br />the provisions of the Code or this chapter do not <br />apply or that the true intent or meaning of the <br /> <br /> -4- <br /> <br /> <br />
