opinions regarding the Library's strengths and weaknesses, their vision for <br />the Library's future and their recommendations for three-year goals. <br /> <br />Based upon these findings, the Steering Committee developed draft mission <br />and vision statements as well as three-year goals and measurable, one-year <br />objectives. The draft plan was reviewed by the focus groups for feedback <br />then finalized by the Steering Committee. The final Plan was then presented <br />to the Library Commission for review and approval. The Library <br />Commission approved the Plan and recommended that it be accepted the City <br />Council. <br /> <br />The Plan will be regularly reviewed and updated by staff, the Library <br />Commission and the Steering Committee. The Steering Committee will meet <br />in December 2002 to review the progress of the Plan and identify new annual <br />objectives. <br /> <br />Community Findings <br /> <br />Focus group and Steering Committee members most frequently mentioned <br />that what they liked most about the library is: <br /> <br /> Friendly and helpful staffand volunteers <br />· The number and variety of programs for adults, children and teens <br />· The attractiveness, layout and lighting of the building <br />· Collections such as genealogy, books on tape, videos, foreign <br /> language materials and text books <br />· The location near downtown <br /> <br />Focus group findings indicated that what most participants would like to see <br />improved are: <br /> <br />More parking <br />Collections: specifically more audio visual materials, high school <br />textbooks, business, books for teens and foreign language materials <br />Technology: Patrons want the most state of the art equipment and <br />technology and remote access to resources such as business <br />information.
