15. Two-story homes should be designed to prevent massive blocky <br /> homes, long expanses of blank walls, and uninteresting building <br /> elevations. Varying wall planes and projections, roof lines, <br /> articulating elevations and the like are encouraged. As an <br /> additional guide, the total square footage of any second story <br /> should be less than 70 percent of the total square footage of the <br /> first floor, excluding garage. <br /> <br />16.
