Ordinance No. 1542 <br /> <br /> Fire Retardancy, When Required. Roof coverings <br /> shall be minimum of Class A rated fire retardant <br /> except in Types III, IV, and V buildings which are <br /> not located in Hazard Areas, where it may be as <br /> follows: <br /> <br /> 1. Class C rated roof covering may be used on <br /> buildings of Group R, Division 3 or Group M <br /> Occupancies with the exception of storage sheds <br /> less than 500 square feet. <br /> <br /> 2. Class C rated roof coverings may be used on <br /> buildings of Group R, Division 1 Occupancies which <br /> are not more than two stories in height and have <br /> not more than 3,000 square feet of projected roof <br /> area, and there is a minimum of 10 feet from the <br /> extremity of the roof to the property line on all <br /> sides except for street fronts. <br /> <br /> 3. Wood product roof covering materials will not <br /> be used on new construction within the City of <br /> Pleasanton, regardless of fire protection <br /> classification rating. Roof covering materials <br /> used within the "Hazard Areas" of the City of <br /> Pleasanton will have a "Class A" fire protection <br /> classification rating. Wood product roof covering <br /> materials used within the City of Pleasanton, for <br /> the reroofing of existing structures with wood <br /> product roofs, will have a minimum fire protection <br /> classification rating of "Class B". <br /> <br /> 4. These requirements apply to all new <br /> construction and to any re-roofing which requires a <br /> building permit but shall only apply to the portion <br /> of the roof which is being re-roofed. <br /> <br /> 5. A Hazard Area shall be defined as those areas <br /> beyond five (5) minutes driving time of fire <br /> apparatus from the fire station serving that <br /> particular district or areas determined by the <br /> Chief to be either high hazard areas or extreme <br /> hazard areas based on steepness of slope and/or <br /> fuel loadings from combustible plant materials as <br /> set forth in the Safety Element of the General <br /> Plan." <br /> <br />Section 2: The City Clerk is directed to mail a copy of this <br /> ordinance to the Department of Housing and Community <br /> Development within thirty (30) days of its adoption as <br /> required by Health and Safety Code Section 17958.7. <br /> <br /> - 5 - <br /> <br /> <br />
