CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA ORDINANCE NO. 1563 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 20 OF THE PT~ASANTON MUNICIPAL CODE BY ADDING CHAPTER 20.52 TO ESTABLISH A SEISMIC HAZARD MITIGATION PROGRAM AFFECTINGUNREINFORCEDMASONRY BEARING W~T2. BUILDINGS. WHEREAS, the State of California has required all cities and counties within areas of known seismic activity to identify certain unreinforced masonrybuildings and adopt a mitigation program to reduce the potential hazard from those buildings; and WHEREAS, Pleasanton is located near active earthquake faults which could produce strong ground motions affecting these buildings; and WHEREAS, the City Council desires to prevent the severe damages and potential loss of life associated with strong earthquakes; and WHEREAS, City staff has held meetings with property and building owners to keep them informed of this ordinance; and WHEREAS, the City Council intends to adopt the 1991 edition of the Uniform Code for Building Conservation; and WHEREAS, the City Council intends to adopt Appendix Chapter 1, Seismic Strengthening Provisions for Unreinforced Masonry Bearing Wall Buildings, of said Code as the requirements for designing and repairing unreinforced masonry buildings. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1: There is hereby added to the Pleasanton Municipal Code a new Chapter, Chapter 20.52, entitled, "Uniform Code for Building Conservation," to read as follows: "CHAPTER 20.52 Uniform Code for Building Conservation 20.52,010 Uniform Code for Building Conservation adopted.
