Ms. Seto suggested that the Commission discuss issues relating to the pmjeet at the Joint meeting <br />between the City Council and the Planning Commission. <br /> <br />Mr. Slajchert commented on the noticing process and stated that residents within a 1000-foot <br />radius were noticed. He further commented on the numerous meetings with staff relating to <br />architectural design. <br /> <br />Commissioner Kameny commented on the need in the community for this type of facility and <br />expressed concern with losing this project. <br /> <br />Commissioner Arkin expressed concern with the view from Foothill Road of this project and the <br />dmign of the project. He requested that a visual analysis, in color, be performed of this project <br />from Foothill Road. <br /> <br />Mr. Slajchert noted that federal and state financing could be affected by reopening this project. <br /> <br />Commission Sullivan noted the Commission's concern is related to the development plan, <br />massing and size of structure, effects of project on traffic, impacts to adjacent neighborhoods, <br />and with the 15-year old PUD process. <br /> <br />Jack Dove provided an overview of independent living and the increase in the number of <br />anticipated seniors in the community. He advised the Commission of recent housing projects <br />that have not been realized and he advised that the developer will not be able to offer Iow <br />housing rates if deusity is decreased. He encouraged the Commission to provide a favorable <br />recommendation to the City Council and not risk losing the project all together. <br /> <br />David Trotter, representing the property owner, noted that the neighbors are comfortable with the <br />proposed facility and that the project provides benefits to the City. He cautioned the <br />Commission against reopening the PUD and the risk of losing the project. <br /> <br />Robert Davidson commented on the design plan of the project, the amount of time staffhas spent <br />on the project, and the visual aspects of the building. He noted there is no need for a fire lane <br />and prodded an overview of the proposed landscaping. <br /> <br />Commissioner Sullivan requested that the Commission's list of concerns relating to the project <br />be forwarded to the City Council for consideration. <br /> <br />7. MATTt~RS INITIATED BY COMMISSION M~MBERS <br /> <br />Ms. Seto advised the Commission that she would provide the Commission with public notices <br />that contain sample wording for its review at the May 10, 2000 meeting. <br /> <br />Commissioner Kameny requested that staff examine traffic issues at Main and St. Mary Streets <br />and consider installing a "Keep Intersection Clear" sign at this location. <br /> <br />PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES April 26, 2000 Page 10 <br /> <br /> <br />
