CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br />ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br />RESOLUTION NO. 01-109 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF 1-580 SMART CORRIDOR <br />PROJECT COMPLETION AND COORDINATED RAMP <br />METERING OPERATION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />the cities and county in the Tri-Valley have jointly created a Tri-Valley <br />Transportation Council to plan, secure funds, and contribute to the implementation <br />of the approved Tri-Valley Transportation System Network; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />staff and elected officials from the Tri-Valley have developed a traffic model and <br />transportation plan which indicates the need to improve the infrastructure and <br />better manage the existing facilities; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />the coordinated joint management of the 1-580 Smart Corridor has been initiated <br />by initial funding from Federal TEA 21 and State matching funds to provide a <br />backbone system for communications, traffic monitoring and traffic control in <br />each of the cities and the County; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />review of the state of the art management systems in other progressive urban areas <br />indicate the success of such systems and their applicability to the Th-Valley area; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, follow-up expansion of the work begun in the Phase 11-580 Smart Corridor Project <br /> is needed to complete the systems in the cities and the County; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, management of the freeway system via ramp metering is an integral part of the <br /> system to improve capacity and reduce incidents; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON RESOLVES <br />AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1: Staff of the City of Pleasanton are hereby authorized: <br /> <br /> <br />
